When people hear about a procedure that can reduce body fat in an area up to 25 percent without surgery or downtime they’re skeptical. But that’s exactly what happens for Profile MD patients when they opt to have CoolSculpting.
There is some mystery surrounding the procedure, so here’s some background on CoolSculpting. A primer, if you will.
CoolSculpting is a relatively new procedure that destroys fat cells with targeted freezing. It doesn’t use lasers, sonic waves, or surgery to remove the fat cells. It does not damage surrounding tissue.
How does CoolSculpting work?
In a CoolSculpting session, the device is attached to the area to be targeted where it applies light suction to the skin and underlying tissue. The device is then activated and delivers controlled cooling into the tissue below. The temperature is set so that it only freezes the fat cells, not the surrounding non-fat cells. This process is called cryolipolysis. Once the fat cells are frozen (also called crystallized) they begin to die. It can take a few days or a few weeks, but over time roughly 20 to 25% of the fat cells in the targeted area die. The body then discards them naturally. The remaining fat layer, now 25% less dense, condenses back into a single thinner layer.
How long does it take?
A CoolSculpting session at Profile MD takes from one to three hours, depending on the areas to be treated. The procedure is pain-free and patients don’t even need to pay attention — they can read, browse the web on their laptops, listen to music, or even take a nap. There isn’t any recovery time, either, so patients can immediately return to their typical activities.
As the fat cells continue to die and the body flushes them away, your results keep improving. Most patients realize their final results after about four months.
