Professional Laser Treatment for Moles
What is Laser Mole Removal?
Laser mole removal is a fast and effective way to remove unwanted moles. It does not involve cutting or stitching, which leads to a cosmetically pleasing result without noticeable scarring. The UltraPulse CO(2) Laser uses the energy of light to photo-evaporate moles, skin tags, and other growths. After treatment, the skin looks red and slightly roughened. Skin fades to a normal color in 10-14 days. Our doctors inject lidocaine solution into the area of treatment which makes the removal pain-free.
Laser treatment offers superb results for facial moles. In fact, it is an excellent method for removing moles that you find displeasing or uncomfortable. The treating physician has a high degree of control when applying laser energy. This control ensures a good cosmetic result.

What Kind of Moles or Growths Can Be Removed?
Atypical Moles
Atypical moles change in size, shape, and color, or they fail to heal. Our doctors do a wedge biopsy on moles undergoing change to get further information on the nature of the lesion. The method of removal depends on what the lab finds.
For example, an early-stage basal cell carcinoma will typically be lasered off with careful follow-up to observe the treated site.
More serious findings such as melanoma will be referred to clinics specializing in the treatment of melanomas.
Cosmetic Mole Removal
Most moles fall into the cosmetic category for removal. Many patients inquire about mole removal for lesions they do not like on their faces or moles that are large, unsightly, and in uncomfortable places.
Laser mole removal in these cases is very straightforward and comfortable, resulting in a pleasing cosmetic look. The doctor will of course carefully check the lesions to make sure that they are not undergoing change.
What Happens During a Mole Removal Procedure?
The doctor will meet with you and explain each step that he takes during the removal process. The following steps will occur:
- The doctor will inspect your mole(s) to see if any concerning changes are taking place such as changes in size, shape, and color, or failure to heal. If so, a biopsy will be taken.
- Your lesion will be numbed with lidocaine for your comfort.
- The laser will then be deployed to photo-evaporate the mole.
- Removal time takes about 10-15 minutes or longer if multiple moles are being treated.
- Small Band-aids are applied with instructions to keep the site clean and moist. We sell a specially compounded cream that aids in healing at the front desk.
- A follow-up appointment will be made at the desk to ensure the best results.
What Should I Avoid After Treatment?
It is important to keep the treated site out of the sun and covered with a band-aid for a few days following treatment. Daily application of VitaRay Cream will speed up healing time. The treated area should be kept clean and covered to avoid infection. Avoid picking or scratching the lasered area to avoid scarring. Do not go swimming until three days after treatment.
Will Lasered Moles Reoccur?
Typically, no. Sometimes residual color will remain after healing. The doctors can clear this up at your follow-up appointment if it is visible. Some patients notice it after a few months but it is easily treated.
