Nix the Tats With Laser Tattoo Removal

Tattoos seem like a good idea at the time, until you realize it’s time to consider laser tattoo removal just a few days later.

Judgment can often be a little clouded by a few too many drinks, or a current boy or girlfriend. But getting that sailboat passing the multicolored sunset on your calf or the Phoenix rising from the ashes across your shoulder was a decision that, uh, maybe should have been made while stone cold sober.

Now you’ve just landed that dream job, or your old girlfriend is not appreciated by your new girlfriend (especially her name inked into your biceps). So, what to do about that tattoo now that you don’t want it any longer?

Come to Profile MD and we’ll get to work using our lasers to zap the tats away.

Different lasers for different tattoos

The advantage we have using lasers throughout our practice for all kinds of different treatments is that we know how to handle their light energy for the best use. Other practices, particularly those that only use lasers on a limited basis for things such as hair removal, just aren’t equipped to efficiently remove your tattoo.

At the Profile MD, we have three different lasers we use for laser tattoo removal: Erbium, Medlite, and Ruby Lasers. This allows us to specify different laser technology for different skin types and for different tattoos. Why is this important? Because different laser light wavelengths are appropriate for different skin types and tattoos colors.

How does it work?

The key is the laser light energy. When we direct the laser at the pigment in your tattoo, we set the wavelength to correspond to the color we are isolating. The short pulses of intense light pass harmlessly through the top layers of your skin and are selectively absorbed by the pigment in the tattoo. This laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into tiny particles. These particles can then be attacked by your white blood cells and then flushed from the body.

After your session

Following your laser sessions, you’ll have 3-4 days of skin sensitivity. That can be handled with ibuprofen. We also want you to keep the tattoo covered with an over-the-counter antibiotic to minimize the risk of infection. Multiple sessions are necessary to fully remove a tattoo, particularly those with numerous colors.
