Tattoos. Passing fancy or enduring tribute? That could depend on your age and if laser tattoo removal is for you.
That fierce dragon that adorns your shoulder could turn into a platypus once your skin sags and droops with age. And that rose down your arm could take on the look of a worn out tulip with a couple decades of collagen loss in your skin.
What to do now? Come to Profile MD and have our team put our lasers to use removing that tattoo. It’ll take a few treatments, but our technology and expertise can do the job.
How we do it
Our doctors use three different lasers to remove tattoos — the Erbium, Medlite, and Ruby lasers. The lasers they opt to use will depend on your skin type and on the colors involved in your tattoo. Most tattoos require at least two different lasers to address the different colors.
Lasers send very short pulses of intense light onto the skin. This light passes through the top layers of the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the tattoo. Once absorbed, the laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then removed by the body’s immune system.
You would think that the laser energy would damage the unpigmented skin around the tattoo, but that doesn’t happen — the laser wavelengths are set to correspond only to the colors in the tattoos, leaving other skin unharmed.
The lasers are very selective, so we can even remove a part of a tattoo (maybe the name of that former girlfriend!) and leave the rest of the tattoo in place.
How many laser tattoo removal treatments needed?
The number of laser tattoo removal sessions necessary to remove your tattoo depends on the number of colors and if there are resistant colors involved. Usually, full removal requires a minimum of six treatments, one per month.
During laser tattoo removal treatment, we use an anesthetic cream for your comfort. Afterwards, you’ll need to apply antibiotic ointment to the area and keep it covered with a bandage.
