MOXI™ & BBL™
Our newest technology offers our clients a FAST way to fight against skin aging.
You’re doing everything right, but no matter how diligent you are with your skin care routine, it feels like a losing battle against the aging process. We understand exactly how frustrating it can be to watch your skin change over time despite your best efforts. That’s exactly why our team at Profile MD proudly stands behind two of the most advanced laser systems on the market: BBL Hero and MOXI laser.
Both platforms are precision tools that allow us to address everything from age spots and discoloration to texture issues and beyond, all while keeping downtime minimal. Plus, we’re a small town practice near Baltimore and DC that gets to know every patient, every treatment is provided with a personal touch that shows through in the results.
HERO Broadband Light for fast treatment sun damage
The HERO Broadband LightSource (BBL) resides on the same machine as the Thulium Laser. It offers an exciting way to quickly treat sun damage, age spots, and skin discoloration on the arms, legs, shoulders, and back. Our clinicians can repair your entire body in just a little over an hour. It is designed to work fast for people who have busy schedules, but that does NOT mean it is any less effective. Forever Body BBL will show improvement with one treatment. A series of three body treatments is even more dramatic. You can expect radiant skin with a system that gives you better tone (improved color) and texture.
How BBL Hero Works
BBL Hero uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to target chromophores in your skin, which are pigment-bearing cells responsible for discoloration (think brown spots, sun spots, etc.). The light energy is carefully calibrated to target, heat up and destroy these pigmented cells while preserving nearby tissues.
In addition to being considerably faster than previous versions, HERO gives us incredible control over key parameters like wavelength, pulse duration and energy levels. This flexibility allows us to customize every treatment for patients across a wide variety of skin types and tones.
What to Expect During Your BBL Hero Treatment
Our team at Profile MD is deeply committed to bringing every patient a fully tailored experience that serves their goals and expectations, which is why we provide thorough consultations. In this initial appointment, we will discuss your main concerns, assess your skin type, and formulate a plan that works for you.
On treatment day, we will first cleanse the area and provide you with protective eyewear. We will apply a cool gel to the skin before beginning the treatment. Pulses of light are delivered through the handpiece as we systematically treat the target areas. Most patients describe the sensation as a snapping feeling. Cooling technology built into the handpiece helps with any minor discomfort you may have.
After treatment, you’re cleared to carry on with your normal schedule, though it’s still essential that you follow some simple steps to safeguard your results.
Recovery and Aftercare for BBL Hero
One of the several reasons our patients love BBL Hero is the minimal recovery time. You’ll have some slight redness and warmth for a few hours after treatment, but by the next day, most patients just have a slightly flushed appearance. We recommend using a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser for the first few days (nothing harsh or exfoliating). Your skin is in repair mode, and you want to support that process. Think gentle, fragrance-free moisturizers with hyaluronic acid and sunscreen (30 SPF or higher).
You may notice some flaking or darkening of treated areas before they shed toward the end of the first week after treatment. Don’t pick at them; let your skin do its thing and the spots will resolve on their own. Results will continue to improve over the next month as collagen remodeling kicks in and your skin’s texture improves.
MOXI Laser corrects sun damage and signs of aging
Uneven skin coloration, brown spots, and redness are all signs of sun damage. Changes in skin texture such as roughness or bumpy skin are early indictors of aging skin. Not to worry, the MOXI Thulium Laser provides a fast and little-to-no downtime solution for refreshing and resetting the skin. The treatment impacts the deeper layers of the skin. This causes collagen to remodel and thicken which leads to smoother fresher skin. The Thulium Laser also reduces melasma. It is the ultimate tool for fighting the early signs of aging.
The Science Behind MOXI Laser Technology
MOXI is what’s called a non-ablative fractional laser, which means it creates thousands of tiny treatment zones in your skin without removing the entire surface layer. Each microscopic column of treated tissue triggers your body’s wound healing response, ramping up collagen production and cellular turnover.
The thulium wavelength used by MOXI (1927 nm) is specifically absorbed by water in the skin, making it ideal for treating the upper dermis where early sun damage and aging changes occur. Unlike more aggressive fractional lasers that target deeper structures, MOXI works in that sweet spot where pigmentation irregularities and fine texture issues live.
As mentioned, one of MOXI’s biggest advantages is its ability to treat melasma, which is a notoriously difficult pigmentation disorder that often gets worse with more aggressive laser treatments. The non-ablative approach means we’re not disrupting the skin barrier or creating inflammation that could trigger more pigment production. Instead, we’re gently resurfacing and encouraging healthier skin to replace the damaged tissue.
Your MOXI Laser Treatment Experience
MOXI treatments start with a comprehensive skin analysis. We’re looking at your skin’s overall quality, noting areas of pigmentation, texture irregularities and where collagen loss is most obvious. We’ll also discuss your tolerance for downtime. If you have a big event coming up in two weeks, we might adjust our approach to minimize peeling.
MOXI penetrates deeper than BBL, so we prescribe a topical numbing cream for your comfort. Once the treatment begins, you’ll feel a prickling or warm sensation. A full-face treatment is done in passes, giving your skin little breaks in between. We can also treat the neck, chest or hands. By the time you leave our office, the warm sensation will begin to fade. .
Recovery and Aftercare for MOXI Treatments
The first 24 to 48 hours after MOXI are when you’ll see the most redness and possibly some mild swelling. Your skin is working hard to repair those microscopic treatment zones, and that inflammatory response is a normal part of the healing process. Cool compresses can work wonders for any discomfort you may have.
Around day two or three, you’ll notice your skin starting to feel rough or sandpaper-like. This is the beginning of the exfoliation phase, where the treated tissue is making its way to the surface.
Over the next few days, you might experience some light flaking or peeling, especially around the mouth, nose and forehead, where skin naturally sheds faster. Again, resist the urge to pick or scrub. Let it happen naturally, and keep your skin well-moisturized to minimize flaking. Gentle skincare and sun protection are crucial during recovery. By day five to seven, most of the redness and peeling will have resolved, and you can return to your normal skincare routine. Your results will continue to improve for weeks as collagen matures and strengthens the skin from within.
