Every tattoo has a story behind it, although some of those stories blur due to the varying hour of the night or to the extent of the party. Unfortunately, the tattoo keeps on keeping on, even when your life has changed.
Is the name on your tattoo not so welcome by your husband or your wife?
That image of a phoenix rising from the ashes. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but not so appreciated by your new employer.
There used to be only three ways to get rid of a tattoo: surgery to remove the skin, acid bleaching, and dermabrasion (similar to sandblasting of the skin).
At Profile MD our doctors have three different lasers — the Erbium, the NaturaLase QS , and the Ruby laser — to remove tattoos. Dr. VanAntwerp and Dr. Mallalieu choose the correct laser technology based on your skin type and the colors of your tattoo. Multiple lasers are often used to remove a tattoo.
How many treatments are necessary?
Tattoo removal usually requires six treatments as a baseline, one per month. Tattoos with multiple colors or resistant inks may need more treatment sessions.
Does it hurt?
The doctors take your comfort level seriously. They order an anesthetic cream to be applied one hour prior to treatment. If you have further discomfort, they inject the area with lidocaine. Nitrous Oxide is available (laughing gas) is also available. After each treatment, you will have three to four days of sensitivity at the site. You’ll also need to apply an over-the-counter antibiotic to the site and keep it covered. Most post-treatment discomfort controls nicely with Motrin or Aspirin.
