Labial Reduction
Labioplasty (or Labial Reduction) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that decreases the size and the appearance of the labia minora (external genitalia). Women who have a protruding, elongated or asymmetrical labia minora will find relief with labioplasty. This condition most often results from childbirth and from the aging process. Many women experience discomfort during exercise and intercourse, and are frequently embarrassed about their appearance.
First, the surgeon marks the protruding tissue that the client wants repaired. He then places incisions just inside the labia to avoid visible scarring. The tissue is then removed. Treatment takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, and may be performed under local anesthesia or with sedation.
During your recovery time you will experience minor discomfort and some swelling. The doctor will prescribe additional pain control if necessary. Stitches are absorbable and do not need removal. Participation in sports such as jogging, swimming, tennis, aerobics and horseback riding should be avoided for a minimum of four weeks. You should also refrain from sexual activities during recovery.
