CoolSculpting is a relatively new procedure that destroys fat cells with targeted freezing. It doesn’t use lasers, sonic waves, or surgery to remove the fat cells. It does not damage surrounding tissue.
How does CoolSculpting work?
In a CoolSculpting session, the device is attached to the area to be targeted where it applies light suction to the skin and underlying tissue. The device is then activated and delivers controlled cooling into the tissue below. The temperature is set so that it only freezes the fat cells, not the surrounding non-fat cells. This process is called cryolipolysis. Once the fat cells are frozen (also called crystallized) they begin to die. It can take a few days or a few weeks, but over time roughly 20 to 25% of the fat cells in the targeted area die. The body then discards them naturally. The remaining fat layer, now 25% less dense, condenses back into a single thinner layer.
How long does it take?
